I started Walking because my L5, S1(spine) has issues I started Walking because I am diagnosed with Insulin sensitivity/Diabetes

Reply: Walk or any kind of Cardio should not be considered now. Why?

The spine is our body’s central support structure. When there is structural change in our spine it will cause discomfort in normal activities such as standing, walking, sitting, sleeping. These normal activities define the quality of our life. When there is change in the structure spine requires conditioning exercises which helps in correcting the structure. Walking on the contrary does more damage. You must stop walking on immediate basis and focus on correcting the deformity. Once it is corrected you can slowly and gradually resume your cardio exercises.

It is a common advice to start walking when you are diagnosed with insulin resistance or diabetes. Currently your body requires strength training to maintain the insulin levels or blood glucose levels. Strength training will help in building muscle mass which will convert your blood glucose into energy. This process will make you feel more energetic as well as it will keep your blood glucose levels normal. Walking may reduce blood glucose in the first 4 weeks but then your body will not show any changes, and you may have to continue with the medication for the rest of your life. Strength training may help you reverse your diabetes and live medication-free for the rest of your life.

It is essential to understand about spine health and decide the course of action for the exercise. It is also essential to understand the relationship between blood glucose and insulin and decide the workout regime.
